Dr. Todd Kevin Young, aged 54, is a prominent medical professional and community leader from Springdale, Newfoundland, where he was born. Despite originating from a modestly sized town of approximately 3,000 residents, he has achieved substantial influence in the healthcare sector as the Medical Director of Main Street Medical Clinic and the CEO of MEDICURO Virtual Health Inc., both of which he founded. Dr. Young’s medical journey began with a Diploma in Nursing from the Western Memorial Regional Hospital School of Nursing in 2001. His early career was marked by significant experiences as an outpost nurse in the Indigenous communities of northern Ontario, shaping his approach to healthcare. He later advanced his education at Lakehead University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and becoming a Nurse Practitioner in 2000. Driven by a commitment to expand his impact, Dr. Young pursued a medical degree at McMaster University, graduating in 2004. He completed his residency in rural family medicine at McMaster, focusing on care for underserved communities, and graduated in 2006. His educational pursuits continued with an Executive MBA specializing in Occupational Health and Safety and a Diploma in Dermatology from Cardiff University, which he is currently completing. Dr. Young has served in various capacities across Ontario and Newfoundland. He was the physician lead at the Green Bay Health Center in Springdale and the Medical Director at Valley Vista Seniors Home. He also served as a Medical Examiner, investigating causes of death and contributing to community health safety. In 2016, Dr. Young established Main Street Medical Clinic, pioneering a hybrid healthcare model that merges traditional and telemedicine approaches, significantly enhancing access for rural residents. He also founded Medicuro Virtual Health Inc., which provides comprehensive virtual health services, demonstrating his innovative approach to healthcare delivery. Dr. Young has also made notable contributions to addiction care by initiating Newfoundland and Labrador’s first rapid access addictions program, which serves multiple communities across the province. His work in occupational health has led to the development of a model that promotes workplace safety and wellness. As an educator, Dr. Young has been instrumental in training the next generation of healthcare professionals at Memorial University and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. His efforts have been recognized through several awards, including a Human Rights Award nomination in 2020 and fellowships in rural and family medicine. Dr. Todd Young's commitment extends beyond his professional roles. He is active in community service, supporting local sports teams and contributing to charities such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation and The Gathering Place.
