Mark Balch is an experienced educator with nearly 30 years of service in education, including over 20 years in leadership roles. His career has been focused on enhancing student success, promoting academic achievement, and supporting students' well-being. Mark’s work has spanned school sites and district offices, where he has championed the importance of community engagement and instructional change to foster a positive learning environment. In 2023, Mark became the Director of New Teacher and Migrant Support in the Kern High School District (KHSD) in Bakersfield, California. The district, one of the largest K-12 districts in California, serves more than 43,000 students. He focuses on supporting new teachers and assisting migrant students to ensure their success and integration into the school system. Mark G. Balch, Ed.D. earned his doctorate in Organizational Leadership from the University of La Verne and holds a master’s degree in Educational Administration from California State University, Bakersfield. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in History from The Master's College. Throughout his career, Mark has been known for his leadership in expanding programs and fostering growth, including overseeing the Kern High Teacher Residency program, a partnership with CSU Bakersfield that has become one of the most extensive residencies in the state. Under Mark's leadership, KHSD's Kern High Induction Program received full certification for seven years, and his Migrant Support program boasts a graduation rate of over 98%. He has led the growth of the district’s teacher support programs and ensured that teachers have the resources they need to succeed in the classroom. Before assuming his current role, Mark was the principal of North High School in Bakersfield, where he developed innovative programs like the high school aviation program and career-based pathways. He worked closely with community leaders to drive positive changes in the district and promote academic achievement. Mark’s career includes roles such as Instructional Services Director and Assistant Principal, where he worked on improving instructional practices, curriculum development, and professional development for educators. His work in the district has significantly improved student achievement and support programs. Mark Balch remains dedicated to serving students, educators, and the community, continually striving to improve educational opportunities and outcomes for all. Through his leadership, he continues to make a lasting impact on the Kern High School District.
