Rawsi Williams

Attorney and Registered Nurse
(She/Her) · Sarasota, Florida

Attorney Rawsi Williams, Esq., R.N., is a Florida-based civil rights attorney, registered nurse, and United States Army veteran. She is one of the few licensed in both nursing and law, focusing her career on protecting civil and constitutional rights. Her practice spans federal, state, and administrative courts, addressing cases involving civil rights, education, employment, healthcare, and government accountability. She is nationally recognized for securing a unanimous $2 million jury verdict in a federal excessive force case, the highest pure police brutality verdict in that court system. She is also among the very few attorneys in four decades to defeat the Florida High School Athletic Association on behalf of a student-athlete. Rawsi is one of five siblings, with four daughters and one son in the family. Her brother’s incarceration was a defining moment that inspired her to attend law school, determined to fight for those silenced by injustice. Later, he endured police brutality in Texas when officers tased him multiple times inside an ambulance after a seizure. A Judge determined the arrest lacked probable cause after he was dragged from the ambulance, and she secured him an attorney in Texas, resulting in a federal lawsuit against the officers. Before entering law, she served in the United States Army and began her professional journey in nursing. She studied at Tuskegee University, where she became the first female Ranger in the school’s Army ROTC program. She later graduated from Florida A&M University College of Law with her Juris Doctor degree and completed military training in medical records. Alongside her practice, she holds numerous certifications and is frequently invited as a keynote speaker and lecturer. Rawsi is licensed in all Florida state courts and in several federal jurisdictions, with additional admissions pro hac vice in Texas and Georgia. Her work includes civil rights and constitutional litigation, employment disputes, and administrative defense, while her background in nursing allows her to represent healthcare professionals in licensure matters. Her dedication extends beyond the courtroom, as she has volunteered for more than a decade with the Miami-Dade County Public Defender’s Office, maintaining an undefeated record while representing indigent clients pro bono. Through her legal practice, community service, and advocacy, Attorney Rawsi Williams remains a committed defender of justice and equality.
