He began his career as a Lieutenant in the Fire Marshal office in Roswell, GA, where he developed a strong interest in construction safety. He dedicated significant time to reviewing construction blueprints for fire and life safety compliance, which helped refine his ability to assess risks and ensure safety standards on complex job sites. His career progressed when he accepted a position as a Safety Professional for General Motors Corporation in Rayong, Thailand. This role marked a significant step forward, requiring him to manage safety operations on a large construction project in an international setting. Robert approached the challenge with focus and discipline, ensuring that safety procedures were followed throughout the project. He continued his international work in the Marshall Islands, where he was responsible for overseeing two projects under the US Corps of Engineers contract. His role expanded to include duties as an environmental liaison, and he ensured full compliance with EM-385 safety standards. His careful attention to detail and dedication to protocol were essential to the success and safety of these operations. After returning to the United States, Robert Hume continued contributing to construction safety through work on major infrastructure projects. He held safety leadership roles with Kiewit Construction and Ames Construction, overseeing active railroad construction, tunneling, mining, and open-pit operations. His broad experience and multiple safety certifications allowed him to manage risks effectively and promote best practices. Robert Hume also provided safety oversight for NavFac and Corps of Engineers projects across various states, and his work included leading safety training sessions to strengthen crew awareness and discipline. His methodical approach to training helped support a culture of safety and accountability on every site he served. In 2004, Hume Campo was honored with the AZ AGC Safety Professional of the Year award, reflecting his commitment and contributions to the industry. Beyond his professional responsibilities, he served as an EMT and firefighter and supported organizations such as Toys for Tots, Shriners, Vietnam Veteran Memorial, Wounded Warriors, ASPCA, and the Humane Society.
